Community Action Network

The Community Action Network Can Help You Become a Parent Leader

The Community Action Network, or CAN, develops and supports you, as a caregiver, to become an advocate for your children and a leader in your community. As a CAN parent leader, you will find your voice and learn how to have a say in the way decisions are made within your local schools and community institutions. You will also have an opportunity to support the Bachman Lake community by working to ensure that every child is ready for kindergarten – academically, socially and emotionally – so they can thrive in school and in life.

Level 1 Parent Leaders

As a Level 1 parent leader, you will begin your 9-month journey and learn how to:

Develop your voice as a leader

Advance your own children’s education

Build a support system of other parents from a similar background and stage in life

Sessions are held in Spanish.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm during the school year.

You are eligible if you have participated in at least one other program for parents of young children and/or are an active member of the community.

Level 2 Parent Leaders

As a Level 2 parent leader, you will:

Be paired with a professional from our partner network who will serve as a mentor and help you gain critical skills for your own personal and professional development

Hold formal leadership roles in the community

Engage in early learning advocacy initiatives

Use your voice and enhanced social network to expand the mission and reach of Bachman Lake Together

Sessions are held in Spanish.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am during the school year.

You are eligible once you have completed Level 1 of CAN.

You are welcome to remain in Level 2 if you continue to have a passion for advancing early education opportunities in Bachman Lake.

High-Quality Early Education

As a CAN participant, you will also have access to:

Free, high-quality early education for your children
(ages 1 – 5 years).

Opportunities to learn about what your children are learning in the classroom and how to reinforce that learning at home.

Alumni

Once you complete either Level 1 or Level 2 of CAN, you become part of CAN Alumni. Our alumni continue to enhance Bachman Lake and the broader community through civic engagement, service and advocacy projects that align with their growing interests and passions.

Bachman Lake Together supports our alumni by creating space for them to share their initiatives with our networks of parent leaders and partners and continuing to connect them with resources and opportunities.
